DTF Heat Press Instructions

Follow these instructions to apply your TE Custom Designs DTF transfers. Heat presses and garments can vary, so these settings should be treated as a starting point. If your order includes different pressing instructions, follow the instructions supplied with your transfer.

Recommended Starting Settings

Setting Recommendation
Temperature 305–320°F (149–160°C)
Pressing Time 10–15 seconds
Pressure Medium to firm pressure
Peeling Warm or cold-peel
Final Press 10 seconds with Teflon or parchment paper

A commercial heat press is strongly recommended. Household irons may not provide consistent temperature or pressure.

Application Instructions

1. Prepare the Garment

Place the garment flat on the heat press. Make sure the fabric is clean, dry, and free from wrinkles.

2. Pre-Press

Press the garment for 3–5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles. Allow any steam to escape before positioning the transfer.

3. Position the Transfer

Place the DTF transfer with the printed design facing the garment and the film facing upward. Confirm that the design is straight and correctly positioned.

4. Press the Transfer

Press at 305–320°F for 10–15 seconds using medium to firm, even pressure. Avoid pressing across thick seams, zippers, buttons, or pockets because they may prevent consistent pressure.

5. Peel the Film

Peel the carrier film: warm peel or cold peel. Do not force the film away if the design has not fully bonded. Lay it back down, repress briefly, and try again after allowing it to cool as needed.

6. Complete the Final Press

Cover the design with parchment paper or a finishing sheet and press again for 10 seconds. This final press helps improve the bond and finish of the transfer.

Heat-Sensitive Garments

Polyester, performance fabrics, and other heat-sensitive materials may scorch, discolor, or experience dye migration. Use a lower temperature when necessary and test an inconspicuous area first. Customers are responsible for confirming that their garment can safely withstand heat pressing.

Aftercare Instructions

For better durability:

  • Wait at least 24 hours before washing

  • Turn the garment inside out

  • Machine wash with cold water

  • Use mild detergent

  • Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals

  • Tumble dry on low or hang dry

  • Do not iron directly over the design

  • Avoid dry cleaning

Important Notice

Temperature readings and pressure can vary between heat presses. Always perform a test press before completing a large order. TE Custom Designs is not responsible for damage caused by incorrect pressing, unsuitable garments, or failure to follow the provided instructions.
